More details to this question:
The building was approved, now with new board members we are told we are out of compliance. As long as the building did not show we were told all was ok. Two large trees died as a result of a hard winter. We spent over $2,000 to replace the natural shield from the street. Today I was told I had to remove the building at once!. Please advice.

If it was approved, then I doubt you must remove it. However, the alternative may be that you have to plant a couple larger trees. Obviously, you should speak with an attorney to get further clarification.
