suing someone

More details to this question:
my father lives in Puerto Rico and he needs to sue someone that lives in New Jersey. How can he do this?? This person gave my father authorization to handle some business for him and now refuses to pay my father back his money.

you dad can sue this person in NJ. if the amount is small, you can sue in small claims court and not use an attorney. if the amount is large, you father should use an attorney. please let us know if we can help your dad. ed dimon, esq.

If you're asking where your father can commence suit, he should sue in Puerto Rico.  From your question it appears that the person contracted with your father for services to be peformed in Puerto Rico, and that his breach of that contract is what gives rise to your father's claim.  If so, there should be no problem establishing jurisdiction over him in Puerto Rico.  If not, your father can start an action in New Jersey, but may have to come to New Jersey a few times in connection with the lawsuit, to testify at deposition and trial (if it goes that far), for example.
