who owns a photo?

More details to this question:
I am a model and I do both paid work and TF (time for time) work where neither the photographer nore I get paid we just do the shoots for ourselves. my question is since i am not getting paid for the work is the photo half mine too? who has the rights to the photo? and who is aloud to alter the image or even sell it? if the photographer sells it am i entitled to a percentage of sales? and vis versa if i sell it?

You make time for time sound like you think this is some sort of legal concept.  It is not.  In fact, it is illegal, even though people do it.  Since you have no agreement on this issue, the issue is unclear.  Probably, the photographer has the better case, since he has possession, but you could make a claim if the money justified it.
