QUESTION

What is the statute of limitations on a bench warrant?

More details to this question:
I have an 18 year old bench warrant that just popped bacK into the system apparently. Friday evening I was arrested at my home by Kirtland police who stated I have a warrant with Ashtabula municipal and asked when I was their last. I could not remember and said 15-20 years ago. He handcuffed me and put me in the car all while not knowing what the warrant is for. Their system didn’t show details as a sat in the back of the squad car peering at the screen. They awaited Ashtabula’s response for transport, but were closed. He released me (like a violent offender). After a small search I found the case that the warrant is linked to. This a NO OL charge from March 2006. Failure to appear in July sparked the bench warrant. Last docket says UNAVAIL on NO OL 1/9/2007. Since then I have had a few more run ins with Ashtabula county. I also received my original license after the warrant was issued. The case file still shows active warrant.
