QUESTION

2 days layover in the US allowed for transit visa?

Asked on Mar 18th, 2013 on Immigration - Hawaii
More details to this question:
I already have a transit visa with no annotations and have been using it to transit to FSM via Guam. This year we are having a seminar in American Samoa and the only flight the is available is FSM-Hawaii-Samoa and there will be a 2 day layover due to the airlines schedule which only flies on Monday and Thursday. Am I allowed to stay 2-3 days in Hawaii (sightseeing, touring and shopping during the layover) with a transit visa or is it only applicable for an 8 hour layover? Would CBP not allow me to enter or leave the airport for 2 days without a B2 visa? Thank you!

If by "transit visa" you mean a C-1 visa, then you will be eligible to enter the US for up to 29 days as long as you have a connecting flight.  The border patrol officer will have discretion regarding how long you are admitted (but two days should be a problem).
