About immigration for asylum seeking

Hello how are you Sir, I am from Uganda. I came to the USA on a c1/d visa working on ships, Once I finished my contract I was supposed to go back home but I stayed at the airport due to fear of persecution back home.so currently am in the USA undocumented and my visa expired. Can I have a legal case without being caught and deported back home

Generally the rule is that an individual file for asylum within 1 year of coming into the country, you did not mention how long you have been in the States. There is an exception to the 1-year rule if it is due to things like Change in Circumstances/Extraordinary Circumstances. Strongly you recommend getting with an immigration attorney to review your case.
