Can an immigrant on a H4 visa apply for an adjustment of status? The person holding the H1 B visa and him do not get along together anymore, but they still staying married. Would the H1 B have any control in this? Or could the H4 adjust status and stay in the US since he has been here for over 4 years?

H4 visa does not lead to eligibility for adjustment of status. it is a derivative benefit for spouses and children of H1B visa holders. Once you are no longer the spouse, you have neither visa nor status.
