Hello! Good day to your office! I have few questions about the adjustment of status or a green card application. I entered USA with a K1 visa and got married within 90 days as part of the visa's condition. Three months after we got married we decided to apply for a green card and we hired a lawyer to do it for us. It's been over 5 months since we gave all the paperwork to the lawyer, and until now we haven't received any notice of action from the USCIS. We contacted the USCIS and they confirmed that nothing was sent to them. I told our lawyer what we've learned and they told me that they don't know what they're talking about so I started to worry if everything was alright. Our lawyers office or the one who is handling my application w/them told me I can work without a green card Or a work permit because we are married which leads into more worries about their service. I really want an answer about my case not sure if its the right time to report them.
You do not have any receipt notices? They are issued within 10-15 days after filing. The notices are sent to the lawyer and to the petitioner/applicant. If you didn't get those notices, then your lawyer probably didn't file for you. I recommend you contact the state bar in the state your lawyer practices and see if other complaints have been filed. You can also file your own complaint at that time. Unfortunately, if your lawyer has taken your money and done nothing, all you can do is refile.
