QUESTION

Am I eligible for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program?

Asked on Nov 21st, 2014 on Immigration - Utah
More details to this question:
I got caught shoplifting when I was 16 years old at a Dollar store. I went to court and got assigned to do volunteering hours and some work books. I did all that I was order to do and from the first time I went to court until my last appointment there. In the paper signed it said that I had improved my grades and had done all I was supposed to do. This was the first charge Iโ€™ve had, I was wondering if I am still eligible for the Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals also known as the (Dream act).

Yes. A first time misdemeanor shoplifting conviction is not one of the enumerated offenses that would disqualify you from applying for DACA.

If that is the only charge, you may still be eligible. Talk with a lawyer to make sure you meet all the requirements of a deferred action and to make sure that you have completed the terms of the charge.
