QUESTION

Applying Citizenship with non-convicted DUI case

Asked on Oct 04th, 2016 on Immigration - Alabama
More details to this question:
My family moved to USA July 31 2011 with Green card. Unfortunately on 03/14/2015 I was arrested by DUI case. I did trial but lost. I appealed the case and got a mutual agreement if I complete diversion program I will be non-convicted. Finally I complete the all the program Sept 19 2016. My case had been dismissed. And I will apply the citizenship. Will this issue bother to get a citizenship?? If I need to hire the lawyer, how much is the fixed amount of applying citizenship?? If anyone interested about case, please send me email about the exact cost and information about this.

Hello,   Yes,  a DUI within the 5 years before you file for citizenship may have an effect on your application. The USCIS officers will look to see if you have "Good Moral Character" particularly within the 5 years before your citizenship application. I would suggest you retain an attorney should you wish to move forward with your application. You may find a lawyer by looking at the lawyer directory here at Lawyers.com or contact your local attorney referral service in your city. Good Luck.
