QUESTION

Asylum applicant ran over by drunk driver, how does help expedite his case?

Asked on Jun 01st, 2016 on Immigration - Texas
More details to this question:
In a nut shell, I applied for asylum 5 months ago with a local Houston-based immigration lawyer, after having barely escaped death in Iraq. Three months later, I was ran over by a drunk woman in Houston, TX, and I was literally under her car wheel, I suffered two fractures in both hands and several other injuries/abrasions, leaving me physically and emotionally disabled (depressed). Now, my immigration lawyer did send mail for USCIS to help expedite my case since I am 20000$+ in debt and very tired physically and psychologically, and after more than 45 days after than request was filed, no response came from USCIS. My question is: what to do next in regards to my asylum claim? Is there any way for me to push USCIS legally to look into my case and help expedite my application towards an interview?

Asylum offices nationwide are extremely backlogged. Many do keep a list of cases to expedite. The problem is finding a interview time slot. These cases are scheduled when others cancel or request rescheduling. Have you and/or your attorney gone in person to the asylum office to inquire about the request?
