Can a visitor be refused entry into the US from evidence obtained forcefully?

My wife was refused entry into the US by a CBP officer from evidence forcefully obtained

Customs and Border Protection inspectors at the port of entry have the right to go through a person's belongings to determine admissibility to the US.
