Asked on Oct 18th, 2012 on Immigration - Michigan
More details to this question:
I am here in the states on B2 visa and my boss also here in the states establishing intra-company transfer for our company in the states. Can I convert my visa to L1 while joining him in managing the branch here in the states? We are in the field of exporting and importing and I am the logistics manager. If yes, so how long does it takes to my b2 visa to be converted to L1 and am I will be qualified to bring my wife and babies to the American soil?

If you have a basis for a L-1 visa based on an intra-company transfer relationship, then you can file for a change of status within the US and your spouse and children would be eligible for a change of status to L-2 if your status is approved.

Yes, it is possible to apply for a change of status from B1 to L1. Approval of the applications usually takes about 4 months (unless the application is not done right); if you pay for a premium processing, you can have a decision within 15 days. If you obtain an L1 status, your wife and children can receive a derivative status and come to the U.S.

Generally you can file change of status from B to L visa. if you are qualified, it may take about 2 months for the USCIS to make a decision. ?If you pay $1225 more, you may get a decision in 15 days. ?Once your L1 is approved, your family may apply for L2 visa in the US embassy of their home country.

Yes, it is possible to change status from B-2 visitor to L-1 intracompany transferee employee, provided you meet the eligibility requirements for L-1 visa. Your dependents may also follow you to the U.S. as your L-2 dependents. The adjudication of an application to change status from B-2 to L-1 may take 2-4 months. If a request for evidence is issued, it may take longer.

If you qualify for the L1 visa you can change status from the B visa to an L1. After the L is issued you can then bring your wife and children to the US.

Maybe possible. Your boss probably has an attorney helping him. Consult with him or her. Maybe you can get L1A or L1B, depending on the facts and your qualifications. Your family may also be able to come join you. If you need to do this fast, you can ask for premium processing. I have done cases like yours.
