Can I petition for stepson if I’m married to an illegal alien?

I am a US citizen. My stepson who lives in Mexico with his mother wants to come to the US with us.

You can only petition your stepson if you married his father prior to the son turning 18.

Yes. You can petition for your son if you married his father before he turned 18 years old. You will also need a notarized letter from the mother permitting your stepson to travel to the US to live with you. Was his father married to the mother?
