QUESTION

Can I travel outside the US while waiting for J2 EAD

Asked on Jan 25th, 2019 on Immigration - New Jersey
More details to this question:
I entered the country using J2 visa recently, and was applied for EAD 1 day after my arrival. I read from several university that traveling outside the country when EAD is in process can cause EAD to be denied because EAD is a benefit to J2 status, and If one is out of the US, he/she is no longer in J2 status. Full link here "https://internationaloffice.berkeley.edu/families/j-2_employment" Since I can't work until EAD is issued, can I travel outside the US while waiting ?

While a person should apply for a EAD while in the country, I am not aware of any rule or regulation that an individual cannot travel outside the country while the EAD is in process.
