QUESTION

Can my boyfriend immigrate to the U.S. if we get married?

Asked on Apr 26th, 2016 on Immigration - Mississippi
More details to this question:
My boyfriend is currently on disability in Canada due to having brain damage. If we get married could he still immigrate? I am on a teacher's salary. He has agreed to get a part time job while in the U.S. - but I am wondering if they will even allow this marriage or a permanent residency?

If you and your boyfriend marry, you would be able to petition for him to receive an immigrant visa. His brain damage would not prevent him from immigrating unless he poses a danger to himself or others. He is not required to work in the United States. However, he will need to show he will not become a public charge as part of the immigration process. This is accomplished by you (and a joint sponsor depending upon your income) filing an affidavit of support. You can read more about family immigration at http://myattorneyusa.com/family-immigration.
