QUESTION

Can my grandpa ever get a passport?

Asked on Oct 24th, 2016 on Immigration - Arizona
More details to this question:
My grandpa used to be a resident of the U.S but was imprisoned when he was younger for armed robbery. He later got in trouble for crossing illegally. He was then banned from the US. He is now 87 years old and his older daughter lives in the US. Is there any possibility of him ever being able to come and visit with a passport?

Your grandpa will not be issued a U.S. Passport unless he is a citizen. He may be able to come for a visit if he obtains a visitor visa. Based upon the information provided he will likely need an INA 212(d)(3) waiver. He will also need to establish ties outside the U.S. I would encourage you to discuss the matter with an attorney.
