Can someone's parent's criminal record affect their ability to get a visa?

More details to this question:
My fiance is about to apply to a U.S. visa, yet his father is in jail. Do you think that his father's criminal charges will affect his chances for acceptance?

A parent's criminal activity will not reflect on a foreign national's ability to receive a visa.

The answer is "no." If your finace has no criminal history then he will be able to be found admissible to the U.S. Your fiance's fathers criminal history will not effect him. That's the simple answer given the bare facts below. As always, it's best to contact an immigration lawyer.

No, it is your fiance's criminal record, if any, that matter. The criminal record of his parents will not affect his visa application, unless he was somehow involved in his parent's criminal activity.
