Can we work for a US company remotely (from India) without an SSN number?

More details to this question:
I am going for a master's in the US and I am currently working remotely for a US company which is in the U.S. Now I am scared that not having an SSN will become an issue for my F-1 visa.

Persons working outside the US for a US company are generally not required to have Social Security numbers. Those numbers are given to people in the US. In applying for an F-1 visa, I do not see why your non-possession of a Social Security number would be negative to your interview.
