I am a Canadian citizen, have a Canadian passport, and arrived in the USA on June 26, 2021. My wife is a citizen of the USA and we were married in Virginia 10 years ago. We reside now in Ashland, Virginia. We are both retired- I receive an old age pension from Canada, she receives social security from the USA. We plan to permanently live in the USA. Before I left Canada I paid for a criminal background check- I have no criminal records. I have a notarized copy of my birth certificate from Canada. Do I need a medical exam, if so, do I need to fill out form I693? What forms do we fill out for me to apply for permanent residency in the USA (green card)? We really appreciate your advice, thanks so much.
You should read the instructions on the I-130 petition for alien relative which your wife will have to file for you and the I-485 adjustment of status application that you will fill out. The forms and instructions are all online at the USCIS website, USCIS.gov. Generally, you and your wife would file the forms concurrently. You can also file with forms I-131 for travel outside the US and I-765 for employment authorization. Your wife will also have to fill out the financial sponsorship form, form I-864. The I-485 supplement is not required in your case. A medical examination on form I-693 can be taken now or presented to USCIS at the time of interview. Good luck!
