QUESTION

Do I need to have a joint sponsor?

Asked on Dec 17th, 2013 on Immigration - Washington
More details to this question:
My husband is LPR in U.S.A. since 2011 January. But he was studying in Singapore till May 2013 with re-entry permit. From May 2013 he started working in U.S.A. So his tax payment for the year of 2011 & 2012 is zero. He filed I130 for me and it’s approved. Case is at NVC now. My question is should I have a joint sponsor because his tax payment for the past years was zero? His income now is above poverty line. Should he need to get any proof of his income from his employer? Thank you so much.

If his income is sufficient for the sponsorship, all he has to do is verify it: Get a letter from his employer about the date the employment began, the job title, and his compensation. He should also include his most recent pay stub with a year-to-date income listed on the pay stub. That should be sufficient even though he did not have income in 2012 or 2011.
