Hello. I currently have L1B visa since October 2011 for an employer. Now I have received an offer for a different employer offering H1B. What I want is to be able to get a green card. Do you know if the time of having the L1 will count to start the green card process? I know it counts for the H1B limit if it is 6 years. I have now only 3. Does that time count to start processing the green card?
The two are not related. You can start the green card process without ever having been in the US. The H-1B maximum just means that is how long you can be in the US in that status. If you start the green card process before the end of your 5 th year in h-1b status you will be able to extend the h-1b status beyond the 6th year maximum.
Yes you need to start before the end of the 5th year (counting H-1B and L time) and be sure to allow enough time for recruitment before you file so figure at year 4 and ? to start the green card at the latest (You are allowed to start sooner if your employer is willing.)
