QUESTION

E1 Holder - Can I start a secondary business?

Asked on May 20th, 2014 on Immigration - Florida
More details to this question:
Hi, I have held E1 visa since 2003 through my company where I have 55% of share. We import gift items from our home country Turkey. Our company is in good standing. Now, another opportunity has risen for me in a different field where we are planning to EXPORT products to Turkey that are sourced through US based suppliers. Can I start up a second business as I am willing to keep these accounst and fields separate. Minimum projected sales are $200K annually and to grow each year. The question is; 1. Can I incorporate a second business while holding an E1 visa that was obtained through my first company which will also continue to operate in its field which is mainly importing from Turkey? 2. (If yes to 1) can we report total revenue from both companies at the time of our extensions? Thank you in advance.

Hello.  If you are incorporated or have an LLC, it may benefit the extension to show all the income going through the company. Thus, the new company should be owned by your current Corporation, then you can use the E1 under "original corp" which operates an additional business. Best of Luck.
