QUESTION

hello,

Asked on Nov 21st, 2011 on Immigration - Arkansas
More details to this question:
I am Indian passport holder and got US green card but moved to Canada on work permit this summer. I applied for re entry permit citing family reasons & have it approved for next 2 years. I want to maintain green card status & move in and out across the border. Since I mentioned family reasons on my application but actually started working Canada, will I might have secondary inspection and lose green card status if I do decide to enter US territory in next 1-2 years? Thanks

You shouldn't have problems, but the real question is how long do you plan to spend in the U.S.? If just days or wa couple of weeks, you'll have problems convincing inspectors that you have not abandoned U.S. permanent residency. You should keep your domicile in the U.S., file annual income tax returns (you will be required to report U.S. & world-wide income earned), and keep current a state driver's license. You should consult with a U.S. immigration lawyer.
