QUESTION

Hired law firm that provided no services

Asked on Nov 08th, 2017 on Immigration - Colorado
More details to this question:
I hired an immigration law firm that I paid $8000 for them to help me get a visa. They did nothing, so I hired another lawyer and received my visa 3 years later. I have been in contact with the first law firm about giving me a least some of them money back due to them not providing me with the services promised. they keep telling me the lawyer will look over my case and let me know what is owed to me. It has been a year now and still have not provided me with statement of services. I threatened to report this to the bar and have sent the law firm many emails asking them why they should keep all the money. They will not respond with an answer that is reasonable. What can I do? Or should do?

It’s against bar rules to charge an excessive fee. Accordingly the bar would want to know what services you hired counsel to perform. Was it a straight garden variety marriage petition or was it like an investor visa petition?
