How can I contact the National Visa Center regarding my one year contact requirement?
Asked on Jun 25th, 2019 on Immigration - California
More details to this question:
I paid the Affidavit of Support (AOS) Fee and Immigration Visa (IV) Fee online on National Visa Center in February. Because I am waiting for my I-130 priority date to be current, I can't take any more further actions with the National Visa Center, which is why it says that I need to get in contact them within a year to keep my application. How exactly do I do that? Should I be expecting a mail to my address to fill out or do I initiate a call or send them a mail myself? If the latter, when is the appropriate time to reach out, considering the deadline would be February 2020?
If the priority date is not current on Chart A Dates of Final Action or Chart B Dates of Filing, the NVC should not be asking you to contact it once a year to keep the case. There is no such obligation and NVC should further contact you when the date has been reached on Chart B Dates of Filing to submit Form DS-260 Application for Immigrant Visa and supporting documents. When the time comes, you can communicate with the NVC by email or by letter once a year to keep your case active. A simple request to keep the petition active for another year is sufficient. The best time to do so is probably within one month of the one-year deadline.
