Asked on Jul 22nd, 2013 on Immigration - New York
More details to this question:
I came to this country 32 years ago, by way of marriage. I got remarried and current husband is in prison, but I haven't talked to him for over 10 years. I lost my green card several years ago and now I cannot get replacement because I don't remember my alien registration number. I also have a felony conviction 5 years ago for identity theft. I am unable to renew my drivers license now, work etc..

You can still renew your greencard, you can find your A-number by filing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the USCIS. However, before you renew your greencard, you should consult with an immigration attorney because depending on what your felony conviction was for, and other factors, you may be deportable, so if you file a renewal application you might be placed in removal/deportation proceedings. So consult with an immigration attorney first before you do anything.

First, if you do not remember your alien registration [green card] number, go to your local DHS office are unable to remember your alien registration number, you should go to your local DHS office and to make a status verification request. By giving your name, date of birth, country of birth and possibly your n order to replace your green card, you need to file a Form I-90

You should consult with an immigration lawyer immediately because your criminal conviction may render you removable. An immigration lawyer can get a copy of your file from the USCIS(your A# will be in the file).

Your question requires an attorney consultation. It is not a simple question that can be answered on this type of forum. There are many factors that would need to be considered and evaluated. Your felony conviction may be a problem and may make you inadmissible. I strongly suggest that you contact an experienced immigration attorney for a face-to-face consultation and give him/her all of the facts surrounding your situation. He/she would then be in a better position to analyze your case and advise you of your options.

There are steps - FOIA request or INFOPASS to get you're a#, I-90 for replacement green card. You should have your felony analyzed to see if it may jeopardize your green card status.

You need to consult with an Immigration Attorney as soon as possible. He can help you find out your A Number. However the bigger problem is your felony conviction which may bar you from getting a replacement green card. You could be placed in deportation proceedings. Get all your court papers and any immigration papers you have so the Attorney can review them in order to walk you through your options and help you with the legal paper work.
