How can one get a work visa when in the country illegal?

Person has been in country illegally for 17 yrs and has 2 US born children that are in school. He wants to work and pay taxes but has worked odd jobs for cash since he has been here

There are some forms of relief available, but they are very fact-specific and would require a personal consultation with a lawyer to see if any apply in your case. A work visa is not available independent of some other form of relief.
