I was born in Korea and came to the USA when I was 10.my parent kicked me out the house when I was 13.i had my social security number card but I lost it. When I came to the social security card office to get a new card they asked me proof for my citizenship which I don't have. What should I do now to get my citizenship?thanks
If you know the facts about your citizenship or have a copy of your citizenship papers or US passport, you should be able to obtain proof of citizenship from U.S.C.I.S. or the Department of State respectively. If you have nothing pertaining to any of the above in your possession, you may be able to obtain further information from the Social Security Administration since you apparently already know your Social Security number. In the event of difficulty with a Social Security office, you could request assistance from their local congressman or senator. If that does not work, you may be able to file a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain a copy of your file with Social Security which would hopefully contain proof of your US citizenship.Due to the limitations of the Lawyers.com Forums, Alan Lee, Esq.'s (the "Firm") participation in responding to questions posted herein does not constitute legal advice, nor legal representation of the person or entity posting a question.
