How long can I stay in US while my I539 is pending?

More details to this question:
I filed I539 for change of status from J1 research scholar to F1 on 07/07/2014. My J1 was ended on 06/30/2014 and my grace period for that will end on 07/30/2014. Is it certain days or until the decision is made by USCIS on my application? I have another application pending with USCIS about my J1 HRR waiver I612. DOS gave me favorable recommendation and sent a letter to USCIS on 16th June 2014.

You may remain while you are waiting for the decision, however it does not mean that you have a certain status. Consult with an attorney as to what you can and cannot do, etc.
