There are several ways to immigrate to the U.S. One way is by employment-based immigration and another is by family-based immigration. There are also temporary visas and permanent visas (commonly known as green cards). We handle matters like this for our clients all of the time. It is important for our office to do an analysis of the options that are available for your family member and to list out for him/her the timing, best to worst scenarios and costs for each option.

As a green card, you can file a I-130 petition for your wife under F2B visa category [child or spouse of a green card holder], and I suggest that you do so right away. It takes between 2-3 years for it to be approved and for her to come to the US as a green card holder herself..With respect your question about other ways through which your wife can come to the US in a shorter time frame, there are in fact several options for this, but it will depend on careful assessment of the facts of your case (something not known at this time) You will need to carefully discuss the various options with an experienced immigration attorney.

If your green card is employment based and ou have not gotten it yet, get married before you get it because your spouse will then qualify through the same petition. If you marry after you get it, it will take years for your spouse to qualify for an immigrant through you petitioning.
