The USCIS is a bit inconsistent about processing time, but generally for a marriage-based I-130/I-485 case, an Employment Authorization Document ("work permit") can be expected in 60-90 days, and in the Atlanta Field Office (for applicants from Georgia or Alabama) an adjustment of status interview for the U.S. Citizen spouse and the beneficiary can be expected to be scheduled in about four months. Problems with proper completion of the forms and submission of all the ancillary documents can add significant delay. If a case cannot be completed at the time of the USCIS interview, the Atlanta Field Office of the USCIS can be expected to take as long as about NINE MONTHS to complete the case, and this is a key reason for assuring that everything is prepared properly and all needed documents are timely supplied.
