How much will I get charged for processing my change of visa?

I have a tourist visa extension until April. My fiance and I decided to get married next month. My question is how much will I get charged for processing my change of visa?

It depends on whether you try to do this on your own or retain the services of an immigration attorney. The filing fees will be $1490 and the attorney fees will vary from one to another.

The USCIS fees are $1490. You can apply while you are here on a tourist visa. You are eligible to get a work permit and travel permit while you are waiting for the green card. And the entire process only takes about 3 to 4 months.

It sounds like you are planning to become married to a U.S. Citizen, who then will help you apply to "adjust status" to become a Lawful Permanent Resident (to get a "Green Card"). [Note: "change of status" refers to changing from one type of non-immigrant visa to another type of non-immigrant visa] If you are planning to apply to adjust status, then the next step in the analysis is to examine whether there may be any details about you and your spouse that might interfere with eligibility or might require unusual steps to be needed (such as obtaining and analyzing certified criminal court records, addressing problems or peculiarities with birth records or previous divorce records, etc.). Some immigration law firms, including mine, offer legal services on a "flat fee" basis so that a client will know the total expense from the very beginning, and a few immigration law firms, including mine, offer an initial consultation free of charge.

If you marry a US citizen, she should file an immigrant visa petition for you. The filing fee is $420. You may be able to file an application for adjustment of status at the same time for another $1070. I charge $2000 for helping people prepare all the necessary forms and documents and prepare for the immigration interview.
