More details to this question:
Dear Madam/Sir, I'm Lithuanian. I just got my Green Card with my husbands last name. We changed last name on interview before approving my case. Because my last name was misspelled two times, I decided to take my husbands name, not realizing that Lithuanian law doesn't allow to have masculine ending on a passport. what is the procedure to change my last name on Green Card back to mine. Do I have to go trough everything again? How long it will take to do that? Do you think USCIS will question my case because of it? My main concern is to get social security number(they can't provide it to me, because my passport last name and GC last name doesnt match, eventhough i showed them my marriage certificate) and to be able to travel out of state and come back. Maybe there is a way to to do that not changing anything? Thank you! Looking forward to hear from you! Simona
Hello. If you just received your new green card and want to change it, you have to file to change your name. It is not a new family case. It is called an I-90. You should be able to get the SSN with your green card and not your passport. However, the marriage and birth certificate should fix that also. Your SSN must match your green card name.
