More details to this question:
I’m applying for a green card and I got caught shoplifting today. I wasn’t handcuffed but the police was there and I have to go to court. What’s gonna happen? Is that gonna affect my green card? Is it gonna be in my records? Do I need a lawyer to represent me in court?
Assuming that this is a simple shoplifting in North Carolina, a conviction would not make you inadmissible to the United States. You must disclose any arrests and convictions to U.S.C.I.S. in your adjustment of status application. It is always a good idea to have a lawyer represent you in court on criminal cases.
