QUESTION

Inquiry Regarding A-Number Discrepancy on EAD

Asked on Jan 04th, 2024 on Immigration - Florida
More details to this question:
I am writing to seek clarification on a matter related to my recent filing of Form I-765 for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). To provide some context, I previously held a Green Card when I was a kid; however, I assume it may have been abandoned as I have not entered the USA for the past 30 years. Currently, I am residing in the United States on a non-immigrant visa and have recently received my EAD. During the completion of Form I-765, I encountered a question about the A-Number, and not being certain of its relevance, I left the field blank. Subsequently, I received my EAD, but with a different A-Number than what was originally in my old green card. My understanding was that if the A-Number field is left blank in the form I-765, USCIS would automatically assign the same old A-Number. However, the discrepancy has left me seeking clarification on whether this may pose any issues in the future if I apply for my green card again

All prior A numbers should be listed so that CIS can consolidate all applications under the same number. You do not specify the details of your case: 1) how did you get a green card previously? 2) why did you abandon it? 3) on what legal basis are you now obtaining a new work permit?  These are very important issues that you should review with a qualified immigration attorney.
