QUESTION

Is I-130 approval letter necessary for green card application?

Asked on Oct 02nd, 2014 on Immigration - Texas
More details to this question:
I am applying for permanent residency (I-485). I came to the US as a result of my sister's I-130, which was approved in 1990. I have since lost touch with my sister and do not have a copy of the approval letter. I do have a letter from INS regarding a previous failed application for residency that refers to the approved I-130 application, even giving dates of application and approval. Do I still need to obtain the I-130 approval letter and how do I do so?

There could be a greater problem in that you are required to have a new affidavit of support from her. And, yes, you need the approval notice.
