Is it legal for employer to keep Employment Authorization Document?

More details to this question:
My husband was an employee on a cruise ship and they held onto his EAD so now he is having issues filing for his adjustment of status and new EAD. Is this legal for the cruise line to do?

Hi. No, it is his personal document and should get it back.  However, you do not need it to file an adjustment of status.
