QUESTION

Italian Citizenship

Asked on Apr 22nd, 2015 on Immigration - Missouri
More details to this question:
I was born in Brazil but am currently a U.S. citizen. I wanted some more information on how I could go about getting my Italian citizenship. I believe I'm eligible through my grandfather who was born in Italy but then moved to Brazil at a young age. Is that correct? What documents would I need? I'm also wondering if I'd be allowed to keep both my U.S. and Brazil citizenship along with the Italian citizenship. Also, should I apply through my Brazilian citizenship or American?

Hello, You would need to contact the Italian consulate if you are seeking to claim your Italian citizenship. The U.S. permits dual citizenship and you should contact both the Italian and Brazilian consulates to see if they would let you to have their citizenship and the U.S. citizenship also. Good Luck. The information above is of a general nature. It is not, nor is it intended to be, legal advice. You should contact an immigration lawyer in your city for specific legal advice about your situation.
