Hi, I'm with a J1 visa (Aupair). and it expires in August 2016, however I applied for a change of status, to a F1 this month. I'd like to know if I can quit the J1 and just wait for the answer about my F1.

It is always best to continue to maintain your nonimmigrant status until a decision on your change of status application is approved. However, you will be allowed to remain in the United States while your change of status application is pending if you quit your au pair position. You will not be in a valid nonimmigrant status after quitting.
