I was returning to the states after traveling to Mexico (travel for my father's death anniversary) I was told at the border that my Permanent Resident Card has expired. I spoke with the Bordal Patrol person in charge and they said i needed to look into getting my Citizenship Certification being that my father was a US CITIZEN and I was brought to this country as an infant. I was given a warning and really want to take the next steps into becoming a citizen.
The Child Citizenship Act became effective in 2001 and allows automatic citizenship to a child where a parent is a U. S. citizen, the child is under 18 and a lawful permanent resident, and the child is in the physical and legal custody of the U. S. citizen parent. If all the conditions were met and you were under the age of 18 on 2/27/01, you can make an application for citizenship on form N-600 Application for Certificate of Citizenship.
