QUESTION

N400 - Question on other names used

Asked on Jun 17th, 2015 on Immigration - Virginia
More details to this question:
In the application of Naturalization (N-400), Part 2 Question 3 asks the applicant to provide "Other Names(s) You have Used Since Birth (include nicknames, aliases, and maiden name if applicable)". I have a nickname which is a shortened version of my legal first name and most of my colleagues in office call/email me by this nickname and I have used the nickname in my email address/signature. Also, I have used this nickname in the past on FB/LinkedIn. The nickname has not been mentioned/used in any immigration application (including G325A for GC) or any other official documentation (like GC, Passport, visa, bank, insurance, credit cards, etc). Even my family does NOT use my nickname. Do I need to put the nickname in the Part 2 Question 3 of N400 form?

Hello, It depends. If this name is used on employment records or certificates, then it is a good idea to include it. There is no harm by including it. Good Luck.
