More details to this question:
Hi, I need some advice on F2 to F1 COS. As I have an admit I am planning to apply for COS from F2 to F1. Recently my spouse’s H1b got approved and so is my H4 approved. Now that if I apply for F2 to F1. What would be my visa status from 1st of Oct, if my F2 to F1 gets approved before 1st of Oct? And how long does it take for my F2 to F1 COS to get approved by USCIS? Any chances of it getting approved before mid of august? Thanks in advance.

Your status as of October 1st would be H-4 if your request for a COS from F-2 to F-1 is approved before October 1st. It currently takes 2.5 to 6 months for USCIS to adjudicate a request for a change of status. The processing time varies depending upon the Service Center that will process the request. It is possible that the change of status would approved by mid-August but it will be close. You can read more about student status at http://myattorneyusa.com/student-visas.
