It is best to start work for the sponsoring employer and then transfer to a new employer. You should speak to the new employer's immigration attorney to understand the process and risks fully before deciding to move forward. In the interim, you can read more about H-1B at http://myattorneyusa.com/introduction-to-h1b-visas.
