More details to this question:
Hello All, Thanks in advance for spending your time to help me. My start date on OPT is July 23, 2013. I started working as voluntary research intern under a professor in my department from September 30th till February 9th and after which I got a job in an E-verified company with starting date February 10. I applied for STEM extension and received an RFE requesting more documents about employment history. My question is I have pay stubs for my current job but I don't have any pay stub for my work under professor. However I have a letter from him stating that I worked as "Voluntary research intern" under him in his lab from 09/30/2013 to 02/09/2014 for atleast 20 hours/week. I was wondering if this letter will work? Will I be facing any problem?.I am reading that Nebraska centre is rejecting STEM extension considering unpaid internship as unemployed. I am hoping to hear back. Thank you.

A student may work as a volunteer or unpaid intern, where this practice does not violate any labor laws. The work must be at least 20 hours per week for a student on post-completion OPT. A student must be able to provide evidence acquired from the student’s employer to verify that the student worked at least 20 hours per week during the period of employment.
I hope that helps.
