QUESTION

Selective Services and applying for US Ctizenship

Asked on Oct 16th, 2014 on Immigration - Pennsylvania
More details to this question:
I am a male 35 years of age. I first entered the U.S. in 1997 at the age of 19. I traveled from the Dominican Republic and was hired to play baseball for the MLB. I was only in the U.S. during the baseball season had have been every year up until 2013. This year I entered the country and work full time in PA outside the MLB employment, I did not register for Selective Services, since I was considered exempt. My question, since I am at the age of 35 now, will this prevent me for becoming a U.S. citizen and do i need to provide proof of my travels when I appear for my testing and interview date on 10/28/14. I have contacted the CBP to retrieve my travel records from 1997 and I have my current passport information, once i receive my travel informatin i will submit the forms to the selective service department, but i am afraid this will holdup my citizenship status. Since i am over the age, am i exempt from providing this information to the USCIS.

Hello. You only have to provide your trips since you were a Resident (when you got your green card). You can also write a letter to the Selective Service asking them for permission to still obtain naturalization. We have assisted many clients with obtaining this approval from them. You will not likely get that by your 10/24 interview, but you can show that you are trying to get it. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
