QUESTION

Sponsoring parents for green card when unemployed

Asked on Sep 10th, 2020 on Immigration - Washington
More details to this question:
Hello, I am currently unemployed but would like to sponsor my parents. For my sponsorship form I-864 I do not want to include my household income (i.e. my spouse income or our assets like home etc.) in affidavit. So, pretty much my affidavit will have $0 income. However, my brother is willing to be a joint sponsor and will fill I-864 as joint sponsor. Do I still have to fill I-864 (with $0 income) and also file my tax returns (which is joint married tax return) ?

Yes even if you have a joint financial sponsor, the petitioner is still required to file the 864 despite that you have no income or insufficient income.
