Hello, I am on H4 visa and planning to bring my parents for pleasure trip. While filling the DS160 forum , I got a few doubts and need some expert advice.. My father is now retired but previously he has been working in a scientific govt organisation in india. He had been rejected visa 3 times around 25 years back ( two times student visa and one time visitor visa). While filling the DS 160 form there is qs " Have you ever been refused a US visa before" . I know I have to say YES but they ask the Explanation. Can anybody please suggest what to write in this column. Does the previous rejections have any affect on the present visitor visa application since now the situation is different and my dad is retired. PLease help.. I am worried what to fill in there and if the there will be any implications of previous visa denial on present application. Thank you very much
You and your father can fill out the DS – 160 form with the explanation that he was rejected three times previously as you stated for student and visitor visas approximately 25 years ago. The fact of rejection so long ago should not impact a consular officer's decision on whether to issue a visa now. As you point out, circumstances have changed in the 25 years. A consular officer will be more concerned with whether he or she believes that your father will return to India following a period of visit if he or she gives your father a visitors visa. You must answer the question truthfully of course. They should have provided your father the reason for each denial. He should pass on that reason in his explanation on the current DS-160. It is most likely because he couldn't prove he would return to India, which of course will still be a problem.
