what is abadoning of permanent residence?

More details to this question:
i SUBMITTED MY N-400 APPLICATION AFTER passing five years of grant of permanent residence with two entries of my going to my born/country Pakistan , one in 2014 and second in 2015 ,each trip was less than six months. The interview officer did not decide the case but told she will convey the decision.After 3 days aletter was recieved from from her that you left u s two times so you abadoned your permanent residence,pl explain this. Also explain that why you left to visit pakistan two times. I sent the required explanations . THE OFFICER is mum and has not informed me as yet,though about 30 days has passed. pl. advise future course to follow ?

You can be found to have abandoned your status even if you remain outside the country for less than six months. It is difficult to assess what the problem without actually looking at the naturalization application, request from USCIS and your response. USCIS has up to 120 days to make a decision. If you have not received a decision in 120 days you should submit an e-request or schedule an infopass appointment. It would be a good idea to have the matter thoroughly reviews by an attorney while the application is still pending.
