Hello. I am a US Citizen married to a Moroccan woman, and I applied for relative spouse visa. I submitted my I-130 and all the documents to USCIS. I was notified that my case will be transferred to NVC. What should I expect? Steps? What documents needed? Much appreciated.

The NVC will contact you after about 3-4 weeks and will send you an invoice for the consular fees and a list of documentation and information that will need to be submitted. You can start looking for what documentation will need to be provided by checking their website, www.immigrantvisas.state.gov.

Consult with an experienced immigration attorney for guidance. Spousal cases are usually considerably more complicated and lengthy than one would expect. The NVC will advise you in writing as to the subsequent steps in relation to consular processing for your spouse upon approval of your I-130 spousal petition.

You need to work with an attorney if you are confused. You will be receiving a serious of notifications regarding the steps, including request for submission of an affidavit of support. When you petition is approved, the consulate will be notified and then the consulate will notify your wife when to come to get the visa.

NVC will email you. First, you will be asked to pay online $230 and $88 visa processing fees. Then, you will be asked to file form I-864 and all supporting documents. Then NVC will verify your file for completeness and let you know if any other important documents are missing. Finally, your wife will be completing form DS-260 online, and from there, the case will go to the US Embassy. Before the interview your wife will have to obtain her police clearances (that she was never arrested or convicted of any crime) and a medical exam. It could be a long process, so be patient and strictly comply with all their requests for documentation.
